The Maungakaramea Cricket Club (MCC) is situated 20mins South-West of Whangarei. It is a great family club with very good facilities and a fantastic community feel. The club has two grounds and a two storied pavilion that overlooks both grounds. The main ground has a grass wicket and the number two ground has an artificial wicket. The club has three practice nets and an artificial turf area, in which teams train on. It is located beside the Mid-Western Rugby and Squash club and the facilities are regarded as a hub of the Maungakaramea community.
The club has two men’s teams (Premier and Premier Reserve) and these teams play in the NCA’s Northland-wide competitions. The club is also a part of the Mid-Western Cricket Sub-Association – combining with Bream Bay to form this sub-association.
The club has numerous junior teams. A diverse range of abilities, within the primary and intermediate age group, are catered for by way of soft-ball modified competitions that are played on Fridays and/or Saturdays. There are also junior teams that play in modified and traditional hard-ball competitions on Saturdays.
The MCC currently has six players in the Northland extended squad and Tim Southee is the club’s current Black Cap. There is an experienced coaching and support staff that assists in the development for all ages, within the club, and the MCC prides itself on providing quality coaching and management for all of its members.
