SSS v Western Districts

Senior Secondary Schools’ Development Team, Game 2 – 4 November

The Development team travelled to Auckland to take on the Western Districts Development XI at Waikaraka Park on Sunday.

On winning the toss, Northland elected to bowl first on a pitch softened and freshened by recent rain. Tight bowling backed by keen fielding meant that the Western Districts batsmen never really got going. They were all out in the 50th over for just 121. All the bowlers performed well, with Marco Annandale taking two for eight from six overs; John Lynch two for 21 from nine; Adam Ogle two for 25 from 9; Eden Crawford one for 23 from ten; James Jordan one for 15 from six; Shane Burton one for 13 from five; and Fletcher Coutts one for 16 from five.

Unfortunately Northland slumped to 17 for four wickets in reply and so were always struggling to overhaul a modest target. A sixth wicket partnership between Adam Ogle, 28, and Liam Seeley, 15, raised hopes for a time but Eden Crawford with 18 was the only other batsman to make double figures. Northland was dismissed for 102 with 15 overs still available.

Western Districts 121 (Marco Annandale 2/8, John Lynch 2/21, Adam Ogle 2/25) beat Northland 102 (Adam Ogle 28, Eden Crawford 18, Liam Seeley 15).

With exams looming, this completes the non-tournament games for this age group. Thanks are due to Clarc Morris and Chris Pattenden for managing the team.

The Northland Senior Secondary team to compete in the Northern Districts tournament in Gisborne from 17 to 21 December will be named before the end of November. Neal Parlane will be the coach of this team, Russell Smith the Manager and Cliff Watson the third selector.
