NORTHLAND v BOP- FERGUS HICKEY ROSEBOWL, 4TH - 5TH NOV at COBHAM OVAL

Game one for the Northland Men’s team was played on the weekend of November 4/5. Bay of  Plenty won the toss and inserted Northland on a bowler friendly looking Cobham oval wicket. This looked a great decision in the 3rd over with Northland 7/2. A great fight back by Nathan Condon (63) and James Banicevich (33) saw Northland get to 98/2 before an ill disciplined hour from the middle order looked to have undone their good work at 159/8. However, Sean West (13) and Liam Jones (40) battled away to produce a 51 run 9th wicket partnership with helped northland score 219 all out.

BOP finished day 1 at 32/3 with Liam jones taking all the wickets to fall.

Day 2 saw Jones take his 4th, 5th and 6th wicket of the innings and finish with a career best 6-21 in BOP’s total of 87/7 declared.

Northland set about setting up a run chase with all out aggression in their second innings. Aided by some attacking field settings, Chris Page was especially brutal with 63 off 32 balls. Northland finished 176/9 dec off 19.4 overs. This left BOP 300 to win off a minimum 48 overs.

At 5 down for 4 runs it looked like Kieron Nelson (3-27) and Liam Jones (2-21) would bowl Northland to a great first up outright victory but Northern Districts players Ben Pomare and Pete Drysdale saw Bay through to stumps without any further loss of wicket.

Result : Northland win on 1st innings
